Influencers of the New Digital Era
Today I want to tell you about ‘influencers’. Maybe sometime you’ve heard about them but, what is this? Well, in marketing we define them as people who have the ability to influence on a group of consumers due to their reputation, and make them choose a product over other. Nowadays, this term has reached great significance, because of the connection we are exposed on social networks. In the past, someone could be heard for 100 or 2000 people at a conference, now it can be for dozens or even hundreds of thousands (and influence them).
It may happened that you bought a brand or product just because a famous or a certain person used it or recommend it. We used to have the peak on athletes or famous actors. These days, we can find much more examples, like “Yuya”, a ‘youtuber’ that made her fame with make-up advice videos, and has the sponsor of big make-up brands. And yes, she makes the sales of those products she recommends increase. Although her goal is not to sell make-up, but to help people how to do it.
Each are has its particular influencer, some of them more famous, depending on the area. In videogames, Vegeta777, sponsored by brands and focused on comedy, has the power to make an unknown game, famous in a few days. However, the clue to these influencers, is that they aren’t paid to do these recommendations, because they would lose the credibility and reputation they already have. They do it as a part of the interaction with their followers, even though, this doesn’t mean they don’t benefit in some way with this.
The key for your business to get something out of this trend, in which 60% of companies have already invested, and turn them into ambassadors of your company, first step is to find influencers on your area, which depending on the area, might be a hard task. Although, in Spain already exists a platform called ‘Augure’, which is in charge of identifying them. Then it’s necessary to win their confidence (because as I said before, they don’t sell theirselves), and this is achieved by social media interactions, naming and tagging them, sharing with them outstanding and quality content they may be interested on, creating confidence so they share it with their followers.
Kloutspain is in charge of making lists with the most important influencers on social networks in Spain, and it includes brands, sport teams and even political parties. It’s useful to browse about the big influencers of our country.
In such a connected world, and in which people everyday trust less in brands, people and their advices have each time more influence on us.
And if you want to become an influencer, you have to work out your personal brand, social content and create useful content to help people, and they will thank you with their fidelity.
