Don’t be confused by the terms “corporate identity” and “corporate image”.
Within the common expressions of the sector of advertising, marketing, branding and other specialties of the sector the terms corporate identity and corporate image appear, which often create confusion about their meaning. But they are different and have their nuances, above all do not confuse corporate identity with corporate image.
We start from the basis that the corporate identity is the «idea» and the corporate image is «the language».
The corporate identity groups what the company is and what it wants to be. We can talk about corporate culture and corporate philosophy, which form the corporate identity of the company.
Culture is the soul of the company; it is nourished by the links with the birth of the brand and its history. It is what defines who we are, what we do and what we think.
And the philosophy of the company is the mind of the organization. It consists of the values (what the company believes in), the mission (what it does) and the vision (what it wants to continue doing in the future) of the company.
As for the corporate image, it is the visual and verbal representation of the corporate identity. It is also called brand image.
It is the set of beliefs, attitudes and perceptions that audiences have about a company or brand. That is, how the public interprets corporate identity.
The corporate image of a company is reflected in everything the company does: its name, its logo, the slogan, the typography and colors, the website, its advertising, the corporate material, the atmosphere it creates, the history and reputation of the company …
Having a good corporate identity is key to having a good brand image. The brand image is the part that customers will see of the company and has to convey all that the company is.
In fact, there are brands that manage to become «lovemarks», that is, brands adored by their customers and without which they cannot live. For example, Apple has real «fans» who queue to buy the new iPhone model or have all the electronic devices of the brand.
In short, it is important that you do not confuse corporate identity with corporate image, because they are things that, although they complement each other and cannot live without each other, are not the same.
