In these times when social networks and technological media are so known, it seems that there is a datum that surprises us, as surprising as it seems its a really good fact. Reading in Spain is a habit that grows and pushes the machinery of many industries ranging: from printing (paper remains the classic books support) to the new technologies that have made possible the E book, going even to communication agencies, where illustration, layout and publications communication are works that are pampered and cared especially.
The Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain shows a balance of reading habits and book purchases that ensures that already in 2012 the percentage of book readers reached 63% of the population and the number of readers of eBooks reached 11.7% of spaniards over 14 years old and 13.1% of children between 10 and 13 years.
It is curious that in this scenario of growth there is a decrease of digital readers that download digital books paying (32%).
About the reader profile, or better said about the female readers profile, remains in women, with university studies, urban and young, preferring the novel and reading for entertainment.
And beyond the statistics and their possible consequences for various industries, this trend accentuates the beneficial effects of this habit which are described by the director of the “Basque Center of Cognition, Brain and Language”, Manuel Carreoras in the paper “Cognitive Impact of Reading”.
